Supplements Have a Role—But They Aren't Veterinary Medicine

Nutrition can make an incredible difference in an animal's health, but it isn't a substitute for proper medical care.

I have seen nutrition dramatically improve body condition, muscle development, metabolic health, digestive function, and recovery. I absolutely believe nutrition matters.

At the same time, nutrition has to stay in its lane.

If your pet is genuinely sick, your veterinarian should always be your first call.

Too often I see people asking Facebook to interpret radiographs, diagnose illnesses, or recommend herbal alternatives to prescription medications. Community support has value, but social media should never replace diagnostics.

Sometimes owners spend years trying different supplements when a veterinary examination could have provided a diagnosis much sooner. I've had clients tell me they spent more money experimenting with supplements than they would have spent simply pursuing the appropriate diagnostic testing from the beginning.

Supplements and nutrition should support good veterinary medicine—not replace it.
